Should You Pay for Claude? My Honest Take After Daily Use
Everyone asks me the same thing: is Claude worth ₹2,399 a month, or is the free plan enough? Here's my honest answer, with real rupee prices and the one privacy setting you should change today.
Isn't it just another ChatGPT?
Not anymore. I stopped thinking of Claude as a chatbot a while ago. Today it writes and runs code, builds decks and documents, reads my Gmail and Drive, and even does jobs on a schedule while I'm teaching.
Where it really shines: anything that has to ship. Code, training material, client reports, automations.
Where it doesn't: images and video. It can read them, but it won't make them. For that, I still use other tools.
I keep explaining the same context again and again
Me too, until I found these. Most people never click on them.
- Projects: upload your brief, syllabus or style guide once, and every chat inside that project already knows it. Free gives you up to 5.
- Skills: teach Claude your way of doing a task once, and it follows that recipe every time. Free on every plan.
- Memory: it remembers who you are and what you work on, across chats. You can view it, edit it, or switch it off.
- A huge reading limit: the top models can take about 1 million tokens at once. That's a whole book or a mid-size codebase, with no chopping files into pieces.
Okay, but how much will this actually cost me?
There's no fixed message count. Your limit refills every 5 hours, and paid plans also have a weekly cap. Long chats and big files use it up faster. When you hit the wall, you wait, upgrade, or turn on pay-as-you-go credits on a paid plan.
A token is roughly three-quarters of a word, so 1 million tokens is around 7.5 lakh words. Hindi uses more tokens per word, so it fills up faster.
There's no free API. You get a small trial credit, then you pay per use.
- Free: ₹0. Good for a few questions a day, with the everyday models.
- Pro: ₹2,399 a month, or ₹2,000 a month if paid yearly (GST incl.). At least 5x more use, the smartest models, Claude Code and scheduled tasks.
- Max: ₹11,999 or ₹23,999 a month. For people who live in Claude all day.
One tip: check the website and the app store before paying. They sometimes show different prices.
Is Claude reading my client files?
Here's the part that surprised me. On Free, Pro and Max, your chats can be used to train Claude by default. Paying doesn't switch it off. You have to.
With the setting off, chats are kept for 30 days. With it on, for up to 5 years.
Working with client data? Don't use a personal account. Team and Enterprise plans don't train on your data by default, and Enterprise adds what big companies ask for, like SOC 2, ISO 27001 and a HIPAA-ready setup. And whatever Claude writes for you is yours to use.
I'm tired of doing the same task every Monday
This is my favourite part. Three steps, no coding.
- Do the task once in a normal chat until the result looks right.
- Say "turn this into a skill". Claude saves your recipe so it can repeat it exactly.
- Type /schedule and tell it when, like "Every Monday at 9, check my inbox for training enquiries and draft replies."
It runs on Claude's servers, so your laptop can be shut. Scheduled tasks need a paid plan.
Already using n8n or Zapier? Keep them for the plumbing, and call Claude only for the steps that need thinking.
So… should you pay?
My rule: if it saves you even one hour a week, Pro pays for itself.
- Just curious, a few questions a week? Stay free. Honestly, it's enough.
- Using AI for work most days? Get Pro, and pay yearly to save.
- Coding with Claude all day and hitting limits? Then think about Max.
- Handling client or company data? Go for Team, not a personal plan.
- Want images or videos? Claude isn't your tool.
Do this today: open Settings, then Privacy, and turn off "Help improve Claude". It takes ten seconds.
